Yamashiro Onsen Yunokuni Tensho is a hot-spring ryokan in Yamashiro Onsen, Kaga, Ishikawa. Its 3 communal baths, fed by the ryokan's own spring source and by water piped in from Yamashiro Onsen, swap between men and women by time slot for the "three baths, eighteen tubs in one night" bathing tour, and some room types come with a private open-air onsen bath. In summer, from July 18 to August 30, staying guests can use the outdoor pool and water slide free of charge. Children are served a kids' meal with optional extra dishes, and A-type strollers and kids' chairs are available to borrow, though cribs and futon bedding for babies are not provided.
Rooms
The ryokan offers a wide range of rooms, from Japanese-style tatami rooms and family rooms to suites with a private open-air onsen bath. Standard rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 10 to 15 tatami mats for 1 to 5 guests. For families, there are family rooms with 10 to 13 tatami mats for 2 to 6 guests, Japanese-Western rooms combining a 12-tatami Japanese-style room and twin beds with a living space (66 sq m, for 1 to 6 guests), and Grand Family Rooms, a large room type with two Japanese-style rooms for 1 to 10 guests. In the rooms with a private open-air onsen bath, the tub is either Shigaraki ware or hinoki cypress depending on the room type, and all are filled with the ryokan's own spring water.
Dining
Dinner is the standard Hakuun-zen course, while suites in the Tensho no Yakata wing are served the special Tensho-zen course. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal served to every guest, including mugi-tororo rice made with barley grown in Ishikawa Prefecture. For children's dinner, elementary school children receive a kids' meal plus sashimi and other additions, while children under school age receive a kids' meal. Additional dishes can be chosen, including children's udon, omurice, gratin, chawanmushi and diced steak. The ryokan accommodates food allergies as far as possible, but it may not be able to do so for guests with multiple allergies (generally 3 or more items). If you would like this accommodation, you must apply at least 5 days before your stay; without an application, no accommodation is made.
Baths and Onsen
There are 3 communal baths (Yugen no Yudono, Takimi no Yuya and Kutani no Yudokoro), fed by the ryokan's own spring source and by water piped in from Yamashiro Onsen. They swap between men and women by time slot, so guests can enjoy the "three baths, eighteen tubs in one night" bathing tour. There is no private-hire bath, but choosing a room with a Shigaraki-ware or hinoki open-air onsen bath lets your family enjoy the ryokan's own spring water in your own space. Diaper-changing tables are installed in the changing rooms of the communal baths, and baby chairs are also kept there in limited numbers.
Family-Friendly Features
Co-sleeping is free for children under 2 years old with no meals and no bedding, while children from age 2 until they start elementary school are charged 2,200 yen with no meals and no bedding. Co-sleeping beyond the room's stated capacity may be possible depending on the number of children, but in Western-style twin rooms, guests beyond capacity and co-sleeping children cannot be accommodated. Cribs for the room and futon bedding for babies are not provided, and bed-type rooms have no bed guards either, so babies and toddlers are advised to sleep on futon bedding. A-type strollers, kids' chairs for mealtimes (Bumbo seats, Cambro booster seats and children's chairs) and portable bassinets are available to borrow, in limited numbers. Children's yukata are available for heights from 80 cm to 150 cm, and children booked with meals and bedding also receive a toothbrush, children's slippers and towels. Disposable diapers (pull-up type in M and L, tape type in M) can be purchased at the shop on the first floor. Baby food may be brought in at no charge, and warming it can be arranged. Toys are not available to borrow, but there is a picture-book and children's-book corner on the first floor. It is about 15 minutes from JR/IR Ishikawa Railway Kaga-Onsen Station by free shuttle bus, which requires a reservation, or about 15 minutes by car from the Kaga IC or Katayamazu IC on the Hokuriku Expressway. Outdoor parking has about 250 spaces and is free of charge.
