Yamanaka Onsen Kissho Yamanaka is a 44-room hot-spring ryokan standing along the Daishoji River in Yamanaka Onsen. There are 10 room types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms and rooms with a view bath, along with communal baths and open-air baths fed by a simple onsen and three private-hire baths. Children who have not yet started elementary school can co-sleep, and with dinner and breakfast for them (reservation required, additional charge) and child rates set in detail by age, it is easy for families to work out where they stand when choosing a place to stay.
Rooms
There are 44 rooms in 10 types, including Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms and rooms with a view bath. Miyabi, a special room with a view bath, is 88 sq m, combining a 10-tatami and a 4.5-tatami Japanese-style room with a 30 sq m Western-style room, and is furnished with a Simmons king-size bed. Hana is a Japanese-style room of 10 to 12.5 tatami mats with a view bath, Iki is a Japanese-style room with a small courtyard garden, and Kan is a room with an indoor bath looking out over the mountain stream, where the murmur of the water is a pleasure. Raku, on the stream side, has 10 to 12 tatami mats plus a broad window-side space and comes in 12 rooms, while Tsudoi, on the mountain side, is an 8-tatami Japanese-style room with no bath, for 1 to 3 guests. Nagomi is a Japanese-style room of 7.5 to 8 tatami mats with an en-suite bathroom, Yu is a 27 sq m Western-style twin room that can be used as a connecting room with Kokoro, and Kurenai is a Western-style room with a semi-double bed. All rooms are non-smoking, and every room has a Western-style toilet. An air purifier with a humidifying function is provided in every room.
Dining
Meals are served in the dining area on the 2nd floor. Every meal is served there, so in-room dining is not available. For children under school age, dinner and breakfast are prepared by advance reservation for an additional charge. If anyone in your party has an allergy, the ryokan will accommodate it as far as possible when you let them know the specific ingredients in advance. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. A charge applies to food and drink brought in, but items brought in for babies and toddlers are free of charge.
Baths and Onsen
The water is a simple onsen (hypotonic, weakly alkaline, high-temperature spring). There are two communal baths, Shirasagi no Yu and Kiku no Yu, and two open-air baths. The private-hire baths come in three styles - hinoki cypress, rock and stone - and are free for 50 minutes on a first-come, first-served basis on the day; advance reservations are not accepted. Of these, the stone bath Yukin is barrier-free. The baths in the rooms with a view bath use free-flowing onsen water. There is also a footbath inside the ryokan.
Family-Friendly Features
Children under school age can co-sleep, and elementary school children are provided with separate bedding. Child rates are set in detail by age: elementary school children ages 6 to 12 pay 70% of the adult rate, and children ages 0 to 2 are 0 yen when no meals or bedding are provided. Children's yukata come in three sizes, 100 cm, 120 cm and 140 cm, and can be borrowed by asking at the front desk. Children's items such as picture books and toys, along with body pillows for expectant mothers, are also available to borrow, though numbers are limited and the picture books and toys are reserved on a first-come basis after check-in. There is one barrier-free guest room, and the 1st floor of the building is fitted with ramps, making it easier to get around by wheelchair.
Access
A free shuttle bus is available from JR Kaga-Onsen Station and Komatsu Airport; reservations are required by the day before for Kaga-Onsen Station and by 3 days before for Komatsu Airport. By car, it is 14 minutes from Kaga IC.
