Otani Sanso is a long-established ryokan along the Otozure River in Nagatoyumoto Onsen, Yamaguchi. Its alkaline simple onsen is gentle enough for a baby's skin and is known as "the family bath," and you can take your time with it in the communal baths or in a room with its own open-air bath. Spacious Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms make it a fine choice for a family stay. For meals, there is a kids' kaiseki course for elementary school children and a kids' plate for children who have not yet started elementary school, and you can also choose a plan with a private dining room so you can eat without worrying about other guests. Rooms
For a family stay, the recommended rooms are the 12.5- to 15-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms (about 60 sq m), with views from the broad window-side space, and the Japanese-Western rooms (about 72 sq m), which combine a Japanese-style tatami room with a bedroom. There are also deluxe Japanese-style tatami rooms with a jacuzzi bath (about 84 sq m) and suites with an open-air bath fed straight from the source. Children from age 0 through age 6, before they start elementary school, may stay with co-sleeping; to prevent falls, however, co-sleeping in a bed is not allowed, and staying without futon bedding (co-sleeping) is available only in Japanese-style tatami rooms.
Dining
Dinner is a kaiseki course or a buffet made with seasonal local ingredients. For children, a kids' kaiseki course is available for elementary school children and a kids' plate for children aged 3 to 6 who have not yet started elementary school, both for an additional charge; please request them when booking. Food allergies can be accommodated, so please consult the ryokan in advance. For families with young children, accommodation plans that use a private dining room or a banquet room are also a good option, letting you eat without worrying about other guests.
Baths and Onsen
Nagatoyumoto Onsen is a soft alkaline simple onsen with a pH of 9.67. Gentle on everyone from babies to older guests, it is known as "the family bath," which makes it a good place for a child's first onsen. The ryokan has two communal baths: Seseragi no Yu, looking out over the mountain stream of the Otozure River, and Komorebi no Yu, with scenery that changes through the seasons. You can relax at your own pace in the open-air baths and indoor baths. For families who want the onsen to themselves, there are also guest rooms with an open-air bath fed straight from the source.
