Overview
Resort Hotel Mihagi stands in Hagi, Yamaguchi, next to Kikugahama, one of Japan's hundred best sunset views, and the stairs beside the hotel lead straight down to the beach. Along with a communal bath and open-air baths fed by the hotel's own spring drawn from 1,500 m underground, there is a private-hire bath that families can use together. There are also dining rooms where you can eat in private and themed rooms inspired by animals, the sea and the night sky, so families with young children can relax without worrying about other guests.

On the town side there are Japanese-style tatami rooms of 6 to 8 tatami mats for 1 to 3 guests, Western-style twin rooms of 30 sq m with beds 125 cm wide that sleep up to 3 with an extra bed, and Stylish DX Twin rooms of 28 sq m that sleep up to 5 with extra beds. On the sea side, the 10-tatami view Japanese-style tatami room on the third floor looks out over Kikugahama and sleeps 1 to 6, while the designer Japanese-Western room Yawaragi is 65 sq m with beds 152 cm wide and sleeps 1 to 6. The 78 sq m Pleasure Room Kizuna has a living area, a bed space, a Japanese-style tatami room and a mini kitchen; with no other guest rooms below it, it suits group trips of 1 to 8 guests as well as families with small babies. All rooms are non-smoking.

Dinner is served from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last entry at 8 p.m., and breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with last entry at 8:30 a.m., at Shizuki, the restaurant overlooking the sea. Both dinner and breakfast can also be taken in a private room, so families can enjoy a relaxed meal without worrying about other guests. On some dates, private-room dining is offered for an additional charge. Meals are not currently brought to guest rooms. A kids' meal is on offer for younger guests. Hagi Shizuki Onsen is a natural hot spring drawn from the hotel's own source 1,500 m underground. There are two open-air baths with spectacular views, one Japanese and one Western in character, plus a panoramic communal bath looking out over Kikugahama and the Sea of Japan. The communal bath offers a wide variety of tubs, including a reclining jet bath, a waterfall bath (utaseyu), a body shower and a vibra bubble bath, and a sauna is available as well. A private-hire open-air onsen bath opened in August 2021, giving couples and families a space of their own. Start times run from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., with last reception at 6 p.m., and the charge is 4,400 yen per room for 45 minutes.
Family-Friendly Features
Co-sleeping is available for up to 3 children. Elementary school children pay 90% of the adult rate in both the lower and upper grades, and meals and bedding for infants and toddlers are selected as described above. For children aged 3 and over who have not yet started elementary school, the option with neither meals nor futon bedding is not available, so you will need to choose a plan that includes meals or a futon. Co-sleeping is free for children age 0. Dining is family-minded as well, with private dining rooms and a kids' meal. Alongside the communal bath, there is a private-hire bath the whole family can use. The stairs beside the hotel lead straight down to the beach at Kikugahama, so a stroller will need to be carried down them.
