Overview
Hagi Honjin is a hot-spring ryokan in the Chinto district of Hagi that draws its own spring water from about 2,000 m underground. Its signature feature is Yu no Maru, where guests can work their way around 14 different baths. There are communal baths, open-air baths, a private-hire bath and a sauna. Infants may bathe, and the changing room has a baby bed. Rooms range from 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms to Japanese-Western rooms for 2 to 4 guests, and children can stay from age 0. A used-diaper bin is available, and guests may bring baby food and have it warmed. Children's tableware and chairs are provided, and a kids' menu is available by advance reservation. Note that children who have not yet started elementary school cannot use the top-floor special rooms.
Rooms
This hot-spring ryokan has 90 rooms. Floors 3 through 7 have 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms where futon bedding is laid out on the tatami, a standard room type that suits everyone. The 7th floor has Japanese-Western rooms with 2 beds plus a tatami area where futon bedding is laid out, sleeping 2 to 4 guests (8 rooms in total), as well as a separate Japanese-Western room (Room 716) with 2 beds and a day bed by the window for up to 3 guests. The Western-style twin and single rooms on the 3rd floor have a three-piece en-suite bathroom with the bathtub, toilet and washbasin combined in a single unit; because the raised threshold at the entrance (agarikamachi) is 30 cm high, a step stool is provided. Children who have not yet started elementary school cannot use the top-floor special rooms Shiori, En, Tsuzuri and Akari.
Dining
Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Shun no Maru, the restaurant on the 2nd floor, as a buffet with more than 60 Japanese and Western dishes. Dinner is a kaiseki course, and no room type or plan includes in-room dining, so dinner is served in the restaurant. A children's meal with items such as fried chicken, fried shrimp, salad and a fruit platter is available by advance reservation. Children in the upper grades of elementary school are served the same dishes as adults, while children in the lower grades and children under school age receive the kids' meal. Children's tableware and chairs are provided, and guests may bring their own baby food and have it warmed. If anyone in your party has a food allergy, please let the ryokan know by noon on the day before your stay.

Access
By car, take the Ogori-Hagi Road from the Mine-Higashi Junction on the Chugoku Expressway. A free shuttle is available from JR Higashi-Hagi Station and the Hagi Meirin Center between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. if you call, and the following morning the ryokan can drive guests to the station at 8:00, 8:30, 9:00, 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. There are 3 parking areas - in front of the building, on the east side, and in front of the Yu no Maru onsen - with room for about 100 cars and no height restriction. Checkout can be extended, though there are some dates when this is not possible.
