Obokekyo Mannaka is an onsen ryokan set along the gorge at Obokekyo in Miyoshi, Tokushima. Two baths draw on different types of spring water: the communal bath is a simple sulfur spring, while the open-air bath is an artificial mineral-stone hot spring with views out over the gorge. There are 14 rooms in all, in Japanese-Western, Hollywood Twin and Japanese-style tatami layouts, and some rooms can take extra futon bedding depending on the size of your party. Families with co-sleeping children are welcome, and there is a good range of equipment for young children, including a diaper-changing table and a bath chair.
Rooms
The ryokan has 14 guest rooms in total: 2 semi-suites, 4 Western-style rooms, 4 Japanese-Western rooms and 4 Japanese-style tatami rooms. The gorge-side Japanese-Western rooms are 30 sq m for 1 to 3 guests, with two semi-double beds 120 cm wide; from the third guest onward, futon bedding is used. The Hollywood Twin is 30 sq m for 2 to 4 guests, with two single beds 97 cm wide; with 3 guests one person sleeps on a sofa bed, and with 4 guests one person sleeps on the sofa bed and another on futon bedding in the tatami area. This room type has no bathtub, so you use the shower room inside the room. The gorge-side semi-suite is 60 sq m with a sauna, for 1 to 6 guests; for parties of 3 to 6, futons are laid in the tatami area for everyone. The 10-tatami Japanese-style room also has no bathtub and only an in-room shower room. Every room is non-smoking. There is no room attendant, but staff will lay out the futon bedding in the tatami area for you.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both served in the dining area or the banquet hall; private rooms and in-room dining are not available. For children, the ryokan prepares a kids' meal for preschool-age children and children in the lower grades of elementary school, with fried shrimp, karaage fried chicken, Hamburg steak and more; children in the middle and upper elementary grades are served dishes along the same lines as the adult menu. If anyone has a food allergy, let the ryokan know the number of guests and the details when you book, and they will take care to remove the allergens.
