Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort is a 306-room resort hotel that opened in April 2026. It is located in Hirara Kugai, closer to the urban area of Miyako Island, about 15 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, with a free shuttle bus available, and about 25 minutes from Shimojishima Airport. The hotel overlooks Irabu Ohashi Bridge and has 4 restaurants. Parking for 300 cars is free. The entire hotel is nonsmoking.

Room categories include king and twin guest rooms, with city views and no balconies, as well as deluxe rooms, suites and accessible rooms. Deluxe rooms and suites have private balconies. All rooms have separate bathrooms and toilets. For stays of 3 or more guests, 1 extra bed is added to a twin room. Beds can be placed together in some twin-bed room types, so families planning to co-sleep with a young child should request this when booking.

Co-sleeping is free for up to one preschool-age child per adult. Children who have not yet started elementary school who use a bed by themselves, as well as children aged 6 and over (elementary school age and older), are charged the same accommodation rate as adults.

Infinity pool welcoming children in swim diapers

The 12th-floor infinity pool measures 25 meters by 5 meters and is 1.2 meters deep. It is reserved for hotel guests and is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. year-round, closing for maintenance when necessary. The pool is heated in winter and cooled in summer, with views of Irabu Ohashi Bridge and the blue waters around Miyako Island.

The key point for families is that the hotel advises that children who are not yet out of diapers may use the pool when wearing a swim diaper, until 5 p.m. However, the following restrictions apply.

• Guests under 20 cannot use the pool from 5 p.m.
• Children under 16 need to be supervised by a guardian.
• Children 5 and under must be accompanied by a guardian who also enters the pool.
• Children 130 cm and shorter need a guardian with them regardless of age.
• Pool toys, swim rings and floats are not allowed.

This is a single 1.2-meter-deep pool with no shallow area or kids' pool. It is not shallow enough for infants and toddlers to stand and play independently, so water play means being held or staying in a parent's arms. Changing rooms are on the 12th floor, but locker space is limited, so guests may walk from their rooms wearing swimwear and a bathrobe. The pool cannot be used before check-in and may be used until 2 p.m. after checkout.

Guests may also use the outdoor and indoor pools at the adjacent Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort through reciprocal access. For shallow water or a water slide, the neighboring hotel's pools are an option.

There is no sauna, communal bath or onsen on the property. Bathing takes place in the bathroom in your room.

The guest-only Shima Sprouts Play Zone

The first-floor Shima Sprouts Play Zone has playground equipment and games. It is limited to hotel guests, open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and free to use; some activities and events cost extra. Participatory activities are also offered.

Children under 16 must always be accompanied by a guardian. Shoes are not allowed indoors, outside food and drinks cannot be brought in, and staff are not stationed there. Children must be registered at the reception desk before use. The play zone can be useful on rainy days or during the hottest part of the day, but it is not a childcare facility. Childcare and babysitting services are not available.

Baby and kids' amenities

Free children's amenities include children's toothbrushes, children's pajamas, children's slippers, bed-wetting mats, diaper wastebaskets and step stools. Request them when booking or on arrival.

Cribs and bed guards are available to borrow free of charge; quantities are limited, so advance reservations are recommended. Other rental items include bed-wetting mats, blankets, thermometers and ice pillows. Strollers are also available to borrow, and advance contact is required because quantities are limited.

Ask the front desk if you would like baby bottle sterilization. Baby food can be prepared if you contact the hotel in advance with the child's age in months, feeding stage and any allergies. For restaurant allergy accommodations, the hotel advises that it will respond as far as possible when requests are shared at the time of booking.

There is no shop or convenience store on the property. The nearest convenience store is about 1.7 km away, so replenishing baby supplies can be difficult; bring what you need or purchase it on the island in advance. Ice machines are on every guest-room floor, and a coin-operated laundry is on the 2nd floor.

Practical details for your stay

Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m. An additional fee applies if you continue using your room after checkout time. The 2nd-floor guest-only Retreat Room is available for relaxing after checkout and can be practical for families with time before a flight. All restaurant seating is nonsmoking, and guests may not enter restaurants in swimwear, room slippers or pool robes.
