Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort is a 306-room resort hotel that opened in April 2026. It stands in Hirara Kugai, on the town side of Miyako Island, about 15 minutes by car from Miyako Airport (a free shuttle bus is available) and about 25 minutes from Shimojishima Airport. The setting looks out over Irabu Ohashi Bridge, there are 4 restaurants, and parking for 300 cars is free. The entire hotel is non-smoking.

Room types include king and twin guest rooms (city view, no balcony), deluxe rooms, suites and accessible rooms. The deluxe rooms and suites have a private balcony, and the suites have a bathroom with a deep bathtub. Every room has a separate bathroom and toilet, and for 3 or more guests the arrangement is a twin room with 1 extra bed added. Beds can be pushed together in some twin-bed room types, so if you are planning to co-sleep with a young child, it is worth asking when you book.

Co-sleeping is free for up to one child under school age per adult. Children under school age who use a bed on their own, and children aged 6 and over (elementary school age and older), are charged the same accommodation rate as an adult.

An infinity pool that children in diapers can use

The infinity pool on the 12th floor is 25 meters by 5 meters and 1.2 meters deep. It is open year-round from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is for staying guests only. The water is heated in winter and cooled in summer, and it looks out over Irabu Ohashi Bridge and the Miyako blue sea.

The most important point for families is that the hotel advises that children who are not yet out of diapers can use the pool as long as they wear a swim diaper, up until 5 p.m. The following restrictions apply, though, and families with young children will want to keep them in mind.

• From 5 p.m., no one under 20 may use the pool
• Children under 16 must be supervised by a guardian
• Children aged 5 and under must be accompanied by a guardian who also gets into the water
• Anyone 130 cm or shorter must be accompanied by a guardian, regardless of age
• Play equipment, swim rings and floats may not be used

This is a single pool 1.2 meters deep, with no shallow area and no kids' pool. It is not shallow enough for babies and toddlers to stand and play on their own, so water play here means holding your child or keeping them in your arms. The changing rooms are on the 12th floor, but there are only a limited number of lockers, so guests are also permitted to walk from their room in a swimsuit and bathrobe. The pool cannot be used before check-in, and after checkout it can be used until 2 p.m.

You can also use the outdoor and indoor pools at the adjacent Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort through reciprocal access. If you want shallow water or a water slide, the pools at the hotel next door are the option to consider.

There is no sauna, communal bath or onsen at the hotel. Bathing takes place in the bathroom in your room, but the guest rooms and deluxe rooms have a shower only, with no bathtub.

Shima Sprouts Play Zone, for staying guests only

On the first floor is Shima Sprouts Play Zone, stocked with play equipment and games. It is limited to staying guests, open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and free to use, though some activities and events carry a charge. Hands-on activities are offered as well.

A few rules apply: children under 16 must have a guardian with them at all times, no outdoor shoes are allowed inside, food and drink may not be brought in, and there are no staff stationed there. Children must be registered at the reception desk before use. It works as a place to let children play on a rainy day or during the hottest hours, but it is not a place where they can be left in someone's care. Childcare and babysitting services are not available.

What is provided for babies and children

Children's amenities provided free of charge include children's toothbrushes, children's pajamas, children's slippers, bed-wetting mats, diaper bins and step stools. Request them when you book or on arrival.

Cribs and bed guards are available to borrow free of charge, and since numbers are limited, reserving in advance is recommended. Other items available to borrow include bed-wetting mats, blankets, thermometers and ice pillows. Strollers are available to borrow as well, and because numbers are limited you need to contact the hotel in advance.

If you would like baby bottle sterilization, ask at the front desk. Baby food can be prepared if you let the hotel know in advance about your child's age in months, their feeding stage and any allergies. For allergies at the restaurants, the hotel advises that it will accommodate requests as far as possible if you pass them on when booking.

There is no shop or convenience store at the hotel. The nearest convenience store is about 1.7 km away, so it is hard to top up baby supplies once you are here; the safe approach is to bring what you need or buy it on the island beforehand. There is an ice machine on every guest-room floor and a coin laundry on the 2nd floor.

Practical notes for your stay

Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m. If you keep using your room past checkout time, an additional charge applies. There is a guests-only Retreat Room on the 2nd floor where you can relax after checkout, which is genuinely useful for families with time to fill before a flight. All restaurant seating is non-smoking, and you cannot enter the restaurants in a swimsuit, in-room slippers or a pool robe. Rental cars arranged by the hotel and sightseeing questions are handled at the front desk of the adjacent Hilton Okinawa Miyako Island Resort.
