A Quiet, Adult-Oriented Resort That Melts into the Irabu Blue

Iraph SUI, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Okinawa Miyako is a resort under Marriott's Luxury Collection brand, standing on Irabu Island across the Irabu Ohashi Bridge from Miyakojima. It is operated by Mori Trust Hotels & Resorts and opened in December 2018, and with 58 rooms it is not a large hotel. What it offers instead is stillness: step into the lobby and the sound of the waves and the sea breeze are there to meet you. Every room has an ocean view, with the clear water known as the Irabu Blue spreading out in front.

It is about 20 minutes by car from Miyako Airport, crossing the Irabu Ohashi Bridge, and about 10 minutes from Miyako Shimojishima Airport. A free shuttle runs from both airports for staying guests only, with reservations required at least 3 days in advance, so you can get here without a rental car. Parking for 49 cars is free and needs no reservation.

The Signature Infinity Pool and the Rules for Children

The face of the hotel is its infinity pool, which looks as though it becomes one with the sea. It is 18.79 m long, 8.1 m wide and 1.2 m deep, and it operates from March 1 to November 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staying guests can use it during those hours, and children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. it switches to adult time for light bites and drinks at the poolside, limited to ages 13 and over with last entry at 8 p.m., and children aged 12 and under cannot enter even with an adult. At 1.2 m the water is not shallow, so it is a depth where you will want to keep hold of a small child's hand the whole time. The pool is for staying guests only, and guests are asked to refrain from walking through the hotel in swimwear. Beach towels are provided at the poolside.

Beside the pool there is also a beach club with gazebos and day beds, where you can take your time and watch the day change around you. Note that the sea along the property cannot be used for swimming or snorkeling because of the currents; Toguchi no Hama, known for its white sand, is about 5 minutes by car from the hotel, and a free shuttle to the beach is offered as well.

Rooms, Dining and Practical Notes for Traveling with a Baby

Rooms range widely, from the 45 sq m Ocean View Room to the Garden Junior Suite (67 sq m) and Miyako Garden Suite (119 sq m) with their private pools, and on to the Iraph Coral Suite, which has a jetted tub on an 80 sq m balcony. The appeal of the rooms with a pool or a jetted tub is that the family can soak together without worrying about other guests. Connecting rooms are available too, and you can ask about them when booking.

Meals are served at TIN'IN, a restaurant that juts out over the sea, where French cuisine draws on Okinawan ingredients and Ryukyu techniques. There is no age restriction, and menu items that are easy for children to eat are available. Breakfast is a Japanese and Western semi-buffet, and families who have stayed mention that the children's chairs and cutlery were a help. If anyone has an allergy, tell the hotel when booking and different ingredients will be prepared.

The practical points to know when traveling with a baby are that children aged 12 and under co-sleep free of charge and that a crib is available, which you request when booking. Children's amenities are slippers and a toothbrush; children's pajamas are not provided, so it is safer to bring your own. On the other hand, there is no playroom, no children's activities, no rental of strollers or baby baths, no baby food, and no communal bath or private-hire bath. Convenience stores and supermarkets are also scarce nearby, so it helps to stock up on drinks, diapers and snacks beforehand. Rather than a place with room to run around, this is a hotel for families who want to take in the quiet pace of the island together.

Check-in is at 3 p.m. and checkout is at 12 p.m. Late checkout depends on availability, and some guests have written that they were in fact able to extend until 4 p.m., which let them set off unhurried after their child's nap. The Rakuten Travel rating is 3.67 out of 5 (20 reviews, as of July 2026).
