forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 4.14 out of 5 (1,058 reviews). Several guests report that their children loved the free lounge, where soft drinks, snacks and ice cream are unlimited, and the late-night services such as yonaki ramen (late-night ramen) are well received too. On the other hand, some report that there were so many insects clinging to the windows that they could not open the curtains at night, and others mention a centipede in the open-air bath.

Overview

Kamenoi Hotel Kochi is a hot-spring hotel in Ino-cho looking out over the clear waters of the Niyodo River. Niyodogawa Ino Onsen can be enjoyed in the communal bath, the open-air bath and the lying-down bath, and children's meals come in two forms: a kids' kaiseki course for elementary school children and a kids' gozen set meal for children who have not yet started elementary school. The rooms are varied as well, including semi-double rooms where a young child can co-sleep, with beds 120 cm wide, and Japanese-style tatami rooms furnished with beds. Hakawa Park, about a 10-minute walk away, has shallow water for river play, but there is no private-hire bath.

Rooms

The hotel offers a wide range of rooms: modern Japanese-style tatami rooms laid with Ryukyu tatami and furnished with two beds, calm 8-tatami and 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style semi-double and twin rooms, Japanese-Western rooms and a special Japanese-Western room. The Ryukyu tatami rooms can take up to 3 guests by laying futon bedding on the tatami. The semi-double rooms, also a good fit for business trips and solo travel, allow a young child to co-sleep, and the beds are 120 cm wide. The Western-style semi-double and twin rooms, the Japanese-Western rooms, the special Japanese-Western room and the barrier-free rooms have en-suite bathrooms, but these use plain hot water and are not onsen.

Dining

Meals are served in the restaurant or, for an additional charge, in a banquet room. For children, a kids' kaiseki course is prepared for elementary school children and a kids' gozen set meal for children under school age. The rate for elementary school children is 70% of the adult plan rate minus the 150 yen bathing tax, and 50% for children ages 6 and under who are not yet in elementary school; for children ages 0 to 2 the accommodation charge is 1,650 yen. Food allergies can be accommodated by changing part of the menu, but this cannot be arranged on the day, so please contact the hotel in advance.

Baths and Onsen

Niyodogawa Ino Onsen can be enjoyed in the communal bath, the open-air bath and the lying-down bath, and there is plenty of variety besides, including a waterfall bath (utaseyu) and a foot-reflexology corner. From the open-air bath you can watch the Dosan Line trains crossing the bridge over the Niyodo River. Unfortunately there is no private-hire bath. Day-use bathing costs 900 yen for ages 12 and over, and 700 yen for ages 6 to under 12.
