Families praise the BBQ set, which is easy to enjoy with nothing to bring, as well as the pool and the onsen. On the other hand, some reviews say the glamping rooms were hot during the day even with the air conditioning on, so take care in the hot months.

Overview

GRAX PREMIUM CAMP RESORT Kyoto Rurikei is a glamping facility set in the nature of Rurikei, Kyoto, where you stay on your own site in a dome tent, a bell tent or a cabin. Except at some sites, dinner is a BBQ on each site's deck, and all ingredients, tableware and equipment are provided. At Ruriyu, the bathing facility on the grounds, you can use the natural onsen, a mixed area for men and women where swimsuits are worn, and an indoor heated pool. Inside Ruriyu there are play areas for children that are free to use, and outdoors there are the Fuwafuwa Dome (a bouncy dome) and a net climbing course. Only the Deluxe Cabin sites have a shower and toilet. Elementary school children pay 50% of the adult rate, and children under school age who use no meals or bedding stay free.

Rooms

At this glamping facility, you stay in a tent, dome tent or cabin on its own separate site. GRAX DOME AIR and GRAX DOME AIR PLUS (each sleeping 2 to 4 guests) have 3 semi-double beds and air conditioning. GRAX DOME AIR DX (sleeping 2 to 5 guests) is a large dome tent, 7 m in diameter and 30 sq m, with 4 semi-double beds. Among the cotton bell tents, the Deluxe and High Grade tents (each sleeping 6) have 1 double bed and 2 single beds, the Comfort tent (sleeping 5) has 4 single beds plus 1 rollaway bed, and the Hobbies tent sleeps 3 with 2 semi-double beds; these bell tents have no air conditioning. The Lumiere Cabin (sleeping 2 to 3) is a 9.6 sq m bungalow with beds and air conditioning, classed as a triple room. There is also a 27 sq m dome-shaped tent (1 to 4 guests) classed as a Fours (4-person) room. Only the two-story Deluxe Cabin (sleeping 5 to 6) has a shower and toilet, and it is recommended for families with small children and for three-generation groups. It is 43.8 sq m, with 2 beds in the ground-floor bedroom and 4 beds in the upstairs bedroom. At all other sites, toilets, washbasins and cooking facilities are in shared spaces, so you need to walk outside your site to use them.

Dining

Dinner is a BBQ you grill yourselves, and breakfast includes freshly made French toast and more. All ingredients, tableware and equipment are provided. Except at some sites, meals are eaten at the table on each site's private deck. Pick up the dinner ingredients and equipment at the Center House by 5:30 p.m. and return them by 9 p.m. (some information gives 9:30 p.m.). Outside food and drink cannot be brought in. Some stay plans include a kids' menu: Hamburg steak and sausages for dinner, and a freshly baked bread breakfast. Allergy accommodation is not stated, so please contact the hotel if you need it.

Baths and Onsen

Bathing is at Ruriyu, the bathing facility on the grounds. Its communal bath uses natural onsen water from a high-radon source, with indoor and open-air baths. The communal baths are separate for men and women and open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (last admission 11 p.m.). The swimsuit onsen area, where men and women bathe together in swimsuits, has a sauna, jetted tubs and an outdoor open-air bath, so the whole family can go in together. The indoor 25 m heated pool can be used year-round, including by families with children, and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The room rate includes use of the communal bath, the swimsuit onsen area, the sauna and the pool, and according to Rakuten Travel, the onsen pool and swimsuit area can be used as many times as you like during your stay. For Lantern Terrace, which has ganbanyoku (a heated-stone sauna), the Rurikei Onsen website says in some places that it is included in the room rate and in others that it costs extra, so please confirm when booking. Whether children in diapers can go in the baths or the pool is not stated, so please check in advance. Pool maintenance is scheduled for January 18 to 23, 2027.

Family-Friendly Features

Children who have not yet started elementary school are 4,840 yen with dinner and breakfast but no bedding, and free with no meals or bedding. Without bedding, they sleep in an adult's bed. The rate for children under school age with dinner and breakfast is given as 2,750 yen on the hotel's rate page and on the Rurikei Onsen hours and rates page, so the figures differ. The elementary school rate includes dinner, breakfast and use of Ruriyu (the communal bath, swimsuit onsen area, sauna and pool). Cribs are not mentioned, so families with babies should contact the hotel.
