Yokokura Kousen is a whole-house ryokan in Katsuyama, Fukui, a 5-minute drive from the Dinosaur Museum. Every guest room is a Japanese-style tatami room, so babies and young children can play freely. The popular Small Inn Private-Use Plan books the place for a single family or group, so you can relax without worrying about other guests. Baby items such as a baby chair, baby shampoo and a microwave-safe baby bottle sterilizing container are on hand, and there is a picture book corner and a mini kitchen to use as well. A light breakfast, including bread from a local bakery, is served at no charge.
Rooms
Every guest room is a Japanese-style tatami room, laid out so that young children and babies can play freely. The popular Small Inn Private-Use Plan is available only as a private booking for one family or group, so your children can run around happily without you worrying about other guests. Depending on the size of your party, you use three rooms of 10, 8 and 8 tatami mats, or four rooms with a 6-tatami room added. In winter, a kotatsu is provided on request. The dining room is a space of about 20 tatami mats, also reserved for your group alone, and a wood-burning stove is lit there in winter.
Dining
Stays are basically room-only. For breakfast, a complimentary light breakfast service brings bread from a bakery popular with locals, along with drinks including coffee, tea, milk and juice, plus a mini salad and yogurt. The service room has a mini kitchen equipped with a refrigerator, a microwave and cooking utensils, so you are free to bring ingredients and cook. You may also bring in ingredients for dinner or takeout food and drinks.
Baths
The water here is a mineral spring: Yokokura Kousen no Akayu (the red waters of the Yokokura mineral spring), opened by the proprietor two generations back using ore from a vein they discovered in Showa 32 (1957). This is now the only place in the area operating a mineral spring, and the bath is offered to staying guests only. Morning bathing is not available, but showers can be used. If you expect to arrive late, let the ryokan know and they will accommodate you until late at night. There is also a shampoo bar stocked with popular shampoos and treatments.
Family-Friendly Features
On the Small Inn Private-Use Plan, children aged 0 who need neither meals nor futon bedding stay free of charge. Baby items are provided, including a baby chair, baby shampoo, a microwave-safe baby bottle sterilizing container and baby dish soap. A crib is also available in the guest rooms. The book corner is stocked with picture books children love, dinosaurs among them, for reading time together as a family. Yukata are provided in adult sizes only, so please bring your own for children.

The Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is a 5-minute drive away, or 15 minutes on foot. It is a 10-minute drive from Katsuyama Station on the Echizen Railway and a 30-minute drive from Fukui-kita IC. There are 10 parking spaces, free of charge and with no reservation needed.
