Yokokura Kousen is a whole-building rental ryokan in Katsuyama, Fukui, 5 minutes by car from the Dinosaur Museum. Every guest room is a Japanese-style tatami room where babies and young children can play freely. The popular Small Inn Private-Use Plan is for one family or one group only, so you can relax without worrying about other guests. Baby items such as a baby chair, baby shampoo and a baby bottle sterilizing container are on hand, and guests can also use the picture book corner and a mini kitchen. A light breakfast, including bread from a local bakery, is served free of charge.
Rooms
All of the guest rooms are Japanese-style tatami rooms, designed so that babies and young children can play freely. The popular Small Inn Private-Use Plan is available only for one family or one group, so your children can run around to their heart's content without you worrying about other guests. Depending on the number of guests, you use either three rooms of 10, 8 and 8 tatami mats, or four rooms with an additional 6-tatami room. In winter, a kotatsu (a heated low table) is provided on request. The dining room, a space of about 20 tatami mats, is also for your group alone, and a wood-burning stove is lit there in winter.
Dining
Stays are basically room-only. Breakfast is offered as a free light breakfast service: bread from a bakery that is popular with locals, drinks such as coffee, tea, milk and juice, plus a mini salad and yogurt. The service room has a mini kitchen with a refrigerator, a microwave and cooking utensils, where you can cook freely with ingredients you bring. You are also welcome to bring ingredients for dinner, or takeout food and drinks.
Baths
The bath water comes from a mineral spring. Called Yokokura Kousen no Akayu (the red water of Yokokura Kousen), it was opened by the proprietor two generations back, using ore from a vein discovered in Showa 32 (1957). The inn is now the only place in the area running a mineral-spring bath, and the water is offered to staying guests only. Bathing is not available in the morning, but the showers can be used. If you will be arriving late, let the inn know and they can accommodate you until late at night. There is also a self-serve corner offering a selection of popular shampoos and hair treatments.
Family-Friendly Features
On the Small Inn Private-Use Plan, babies aged 0 who need neither meals nor futon bedding stay free of charge. Baby items are provided, including a baby chair, baby shampoo, a microwave-safe baby bottle sterilizing container and baby dishwashing detergent. A crib is also provided in the guest rooms. The book corner holds picture books that children love, dinosaur books among them, for reading aloud together as a family. Yukata are provided in adult sizes only, so please bring your own for children.
