What Makes Warayunya Special

Warayunya (WARAYUNYA) is a whole-house vacation rental in Gesashi, Higashi-son, Okinawa, in the Yanbaru region that was inscribed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2021. It is a genuine hand-cut log house built by the owner, who is a log builder: about 86 sq m over two floors, where you can take in the nature of northern Okinawa as though you live there. It sleeps 4, with a maximum of 8 guests.

Rooms and Facilities

Because the whole house is yours, your family or group has the place entirely to yourselves. For sleeping, there are 2 double beds on the first floor and futon bedding for 4 on the second floor. The kitchen has a microwave, refrigerator, rice cooker, 3-burner gas cooktop, oven, coffee maker, dishes and cooking utensils, so you can cook for yourselves. A washing machine with detergent, a gas dryer, Wi-Fi, unlimited video on demand (Netflix and Prime Video), karaoke, picture books, toys and a hammock are provided as well.

Amenities Families Will Appreciate

So that families with babies and young children can pack light and still enjoy their stay, there is a generous set of children's equipment and amenities. Available to borrow free of charge are a crib and bed guard (an Aprica Cocone!, bedding included; lower the base board and it doubles as a playard), a table chair, a low children's chair, a bath chair (an Aprica reclining model, for children up to age 2), a toilet-training seat and a diaper pail. There is also a baby soap usable from 0 months, wooden tableware for children, picture books, and toys such as building blocks and other wooden toys. Any items you would like to borrow must be requested in advance.

Bath and Pool

There is no onsen or shared communal bath on the property; instead, the house's own bath and toilet are yours alone, as you would expect from a whole-house rental. A sauna is also available for a fee. Outdoors there is a space for barbecues, campfires and fireworks, plus a private pool, so you can take your time in nature with an ocean view.

Dining

Meals can be enjoyed as in-room dining. There are plans such as Higashi-son Pai no Ton shabu-shabu and Shima Kuro Agu pork shabu-shabu, and a room-only plan lets you cook for yourselves or bring your own food. Even on plans that include meals, children's meals cost extra.

Access and Parking

About 2 hours by car from Naha Airport via the Kyoda IC on the Okinawa Expressway. If you come by bus, a free shuttle runs from Nago Bus Terminal to the lodging for up to 4 people. Parking is free for 4 cars, with no reservation needed. Check-in is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m., and arrangements outside those hours can be made. The landmark to look for is the neighboring Matayoshi Coffee Farm. Breakfast can accommodate allergies.
