The water is a sodium bicarbonate and chloride spring, one of Japan's three great waters for beautiful skin, with a source temperature of 85-95°C.

There are two communal baths: Shiki-no-Yu, styled like a semi-open-air bath and also open for day-use bathing (1,300 yen for adults, 600 yen for elementary school children, free for children below elementary school age), and Taki-no-Yu, which looks out over a garden with a waterfall and koi swimming in it and is for staying guests only, with an adjoining mist sauna open until 10:30 p.m. Staying guests can also use Yama-no-Yu and Shiiba-no-Yu at the sister ryokan Shiibasanso, about 6-7 minutes away by car, free of charge, with a dedicated shuttle running every 30 minutes from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This tour of four communal baths across two ryokan is the highlight of an onsen stay here.
