Omotenashi Hostel Miyajima

A play space for children inside the first-floor shared lounge, which seats more than 80 people. It is stocked with a wide range of play equipment and toys - a slide, a trampoline, a pretend-play kitchen, video games, table tennis, a maze ball, a Tomica MAP play mat, Yogibo beanbags, a moon cushion, bowling, drawing supplies, board games and puzzles - plus a shelf of welcome dagashi (traditional penny sweets). The lounge is open to the local community and can be used by people who are not staying here, though groups of children on their own may use it only until 5 p.m.

Special rooms themed so that the room itself becomes the play space. The Camp Room has forest scenery on the walls, turf underfoot, a BBQ grill with simulated flames, a hammock, putt-putt golf, radio-controlled cars and a starry-sky planetarium, so you can get the feel of camping indoors. The Fairy Tale Room is laid out with fairground-style illuminations and a slide, giving children a fantasy world to run around in. The Beach Room, Savannah Room and Space Room are each built out in their own style, so the rooms stay interesting however many times you come back.

A rooftop BBQ space booked by one group at a time, open from March through November. It is laid out for open-air grilling with views over the Seto Inland Sea, and in summer only you can add a small household pool as a 500-yen option. The BBQ equipment set is 5,000 yen and includes charcoal, seasonings and paper plates, with food and drinks brought in by guests. Extra options include an ice-chilling set at 1,000 yen and a telescope available to borrow free of charge. Pets are welcome on the rooftop, and the gaps under the fence have been closed off with safety in mind. The service is suspended from December to February because of the extreme cold.

There is no communal bath or onsen on the property, so bathing is in the shower rooms on each floor: women-only on the second floor, men-only on the third, and a unisex shower room on the fourth. There is just one bathtub, in the women-only shower room; the men-only and unisex shower rooms have no bathtub. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap are provided free of charge, and each floor's shower room has 4 hair dryers. If you want a proper soak in a tub, the front desk can introduce you to bathing facilities nearby, such as Honoyu.

The first floor has a BAR with 140 kinds of alcoholic drinks, a dining space serving light meals, hot snacks and izakaya-style dishes, and a shop stocked much like a convenience store with rice balls, sandwiches, cup noodles and snacks. The shared kitchen has cooking utensils, seasonings, tableware, an induction cooktop, a microwave and a toaster, so you can cook for yourselves. Stays are mainly room-only, and breakfast is an option you sign up for at check-in.

Free and paid items prepared for staying guests. Apart from a few exceptions, the amenities are free of charge, and you can take one each per person from the amenity bar in front of the front desk.
