Kanaka Village Ogasawara

Kanaka Village Ogasawara, in Kitafukurozawa on Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands, a World Natural Heritage site, is an inn of cottages nestled among subtropical gajumaru banyan trees. Families can take their time together amid the deep green nature of Chichijima.

The inn's signature feature is its six cottages, each named after a Pacific island: Formosa, the Philippines, Solomon, Tahiti, the Marquesas and Hawaii. Each cottage is booked privately, so families can keep to their own pace without worrying about other guests. The grounds themselves, ringed by gajumaru trees, are a place to feel the nature of Chichijima.

As for services, a shuttle runs into town from morning until evening, which is reassuring on an island trip without a car. An early-morning shuttle to the terminal for the Hahajima Maru, the ferry to Hahajima, can also be arranged on request. The inn is a convenient base for tours that make the most of the sea around Ogasawara, including dolphin swims, snorkeling and whale watching.
