Overview
Hotel Okura Niigata is a 265-room city hotel in the heart of downtown, at the foot of the Bandai Bridge, an Important Cultural Property, on the Shinano River and about 5 minutes by car from Niigata Station. Co-sleeping is free for children up to elementary school age (12), with up to one child per adult. Extra beds and cribs are available on request, and bed guards are lent free of charge for children who move around in their sleep, so families are well looked after. Breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet with local flavors, including a tasting of two Koshihikari rices grown in Niigata Prefecture. There is no onsen or communal bath, so bathing is in the guest-room bathroom only.
Rooms
This hotel looks out over the Shinano River and the Bandai Bridge, and its 265 rooms are divided into river-view and city-view types. The most compact option, the Economy Single, is 15 sq m with a bed 110 cm wide, while the Standard Single and Petit Double are 18 sq m with a bed 140 cm wide. Twin rooms range from the Economy Twin at 23 sq m to the Standard Twin and River View Twin at 26 sq m, the Deluxe Twin at 32 sq m and the Corner Twin at 37 sq m, so you can choose by the space you need. Note, however, that co-sleeping is not permitted in the single rooms, the Economy Double or the Petit Double, and it is also unavailable in the Compact Double, which is a single room normally used by 2 guests. If you are planning to co-sleep, it is worth checking the room type in advance.
Dining
Breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet served from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in January and February only). Around 50 or more Japanese and Western dishes in total are laid out, including a tasting of two Koshihikari rices grown in Niigata Prefecture and omelets made with Niigata brand eggs. Breakfast for a co-sleeping child is not included in the room rate and is paid at the restaurant on the day. From April 1, 2026, the rates are 1,800 yen for elementary school children, 800 yen for ages 3 to 5, and free for children ages 2 and under. If anyone in your party has a food allergy, let the hotel know in advance and it will accommodate you.
Baths
There is no onsen, communal bath or private-hire bath, so bathing is available only in each guest room's own bathroom. When bathing with your children, you will likewise use the bath and toilet in your guest room.
