In Ama no Ma, futon bedding is laid out on the tatami floor; it sleeps 2, and the rate is 16,000 yen per room whether 1 or 2 guests stay. The plan listing gives the 8-person room as 27 sq m. Because children of elementary school age and under may stay only in a private room, Ama no Ma is the room for them.
Dining
Stays can be booked room-only or with breakfast. For breakfast you can choose a hot sandwich or rice porridge, and it must be reserved at check-in. Dinner is not included, but you can order at the attached cafe, where orders are taken until 6 p.m. There is a shared kitchen, and guests who cook for themselves can use the Oe no Ma, the shared living room. Eating and drinking inside the building are limited to the cafe and the living room; guests are asked to refrain from eating and drinking in the guest rooms.
Baths
Bathing is by shared shower rooms only. There are 2 of them and they can be used 24 hours a day, with shampoo, conditioner and body soap provided.
Family-friendly notes
Children of elementary school age and under may stay only in Ama no Ma, the private room. Ama no Ma sits directly above the cafe, so the lively atmosphere below can be heard. In the bunk beds of the 4-person and 8-person rooms, small children are asked to use the lower bunk. This is a house where a family lives, and the guesthouse notes that you may hear a baby crying at dawn or during the night; if that would bother you, they do not recommend staying. The 8-person room plans have a child rate. The entire building is non-smoking.
Access
By car it is about 15 minutes from the Gokayama IC, and by bus it is about a 20-minute walk from the Kaminashi bus stop on the World Heritage Bus. For guests arriving by car, free parking for 3 cars is provided on site. If you need a pickup, you can discuss it when booking, but the guesthouse does not provide transfers to Shirakawa-go or Johana Station. Because it sits within a village in the mountains, guests are asked to avoid checking in after 9 p.m.
