Overview
Mercure Kochi Tosa Resort & Spa is a natural hot-spring resort set on high ground in Geisei Village, Kochi, looking out over the Pacific Ocean. It draws Yosakoi Onsen from its own spring source and has two open-air baths modeled on Katsurahama beach and Cape Muroto, plus an outdoor pool that opens in summer. Many plans have children's rates, and children can co-sleep in the Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms. Baby items are available to borrow, so the resort can accommodate family trips with young children.
Rooms
The hotel has 195 guest rooms in a wide range of types, including Classic Twin rooms, Classic Japanese-style tatami rooms, Japanese-Western rooms and junior suites. Standard rooms are 36 sq m and come with a television, Wi-Fi, a kettle, a refrigerator, a bathtub and shower, and a safe. Twin rooms have two single beds and one sofa bed, and up to 2 children can co-sleep. The Japanese-style tatami rooms and Japanese-Western rooms use futon bedding, and up to 3 children can co-sleep. There is also a junior suite that combines two single beds with three futon sets. The 1,550-square-foot Classic Deluxe Suite has an ocean view and four single beds, so it suits larger family groups. Among the 70 sq m ocean-view rooms, one type combines two semi-double beds with futon bedding and sleeps up to 6 guests (on selected plans only). Many stay plans include children's rates, which makes booking as a family straightforward.
Dining
Meals are served at LOCAVORE, the restaurant on the 13th floor, where the cooking centers on local ingredients. Breakfast is a buffet from 7 to 9:30 a.m., and dinner is a buffet from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Alongside the menu shared across all of the hotels, there are Kochi specialties such as katsuo no tataki (lightly seared bonito), tosa-maki and oshizushi (pressed sushi), Shimanto pork shabu-shabu, and aosa seaweed tempura. The all-inclusive plan bundles dinner, breakfast, drinks in the lounge and use of the onsen and communal bath, so everything apart from lunch service is covered. In the lounge, guests can enjoy the Evening Social (3 to 6 p.m.), the Nightcap (9 to 11 p.m.) and the ONSEN Lounge (3 to 11 p.m. and 6 to 10 a.m.), along with a tasting corner for local sake.
Baths and Onsen
The baths use Yosakoi Onsen, drawn from the hotel's own spring source. The spring water is a sodium chloride spring, said to be beneficial for neuralgia, sensitivity to cold and recovery from fatigue. There are two open-air baths - Katsurahama no Yu, modeled on Katsurahama beach, and Murotomisaki no Yu, modeled on Cape Muroto - as well as a communal bath, a sauna and a cold-water bath. The bathing tax is included in the accommodation charge, so there is nothing extra to pay.
