Overview

Hotel Wansai is an onsen inn in Mihama-cho, Fukui, with Wakasa Bay spreading out right in front of it. Rooms come in four types - Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms and special rooms - and many of them look out over the sea. Meals center on seafood such as crab and fugu (pufferfish), and dishes accommodating allergies can be arranged. During the summer holidays, a dinner buffet plan that children can enjoy is offered. The natural onsen communal bath also has sea views, and Kugushi Beach is a 1-minute walk away for the whole family to enjoy.

Rooms

Guest rooms come in four types: Japanese-style tatami rooms, Western-style rooms, Japanese-Western rooms and special rooms. The Japanese-style tatami rooms measure 10 or 12 tatami mats and sleep up to 6 guests, and they are recommended for families with young children. Western-style rooms include 22 sq m twin rooms and 9.2 sq m single rooms. The special rooms have twin beds plus a 10-tatami Japanese-style area, along with a view bath that looks out over the sea. Many rooms take in a sweeping view of the Sea of Japan, though there are also some loft single rooms with no window. For children who co-sleep, a facility fee of 2,200 yen applies.

Dining

Dinner centers on kaiseki courses using snow crab, fugu (pufferfish) and Wakasa beef. Dishes accommodating allergies can be arranged. A dinner buffet plan is also offered during the summer holidays only: about 50 Japanese and Western dishes are all-you-can-eat, including nigiri sushi, Wakasa beef Hamburg steak and sauce katsu, all popular with children. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal served with sashimi and lightly salted grilled mackerel.

Baths and Onsen

There are separate communal baths for men and women where guests can enjoy 100% natural Mihama Onsen. Large windows frame Wakasa Bay, making it an open, relaxing space. The spring water is weakly alkaline and is said to leave skin smooth. The communal baths are equipped with free foot-reflexology massage machines.

Family-friendly features

There is a self-service coin laundry corner in the building that guests can use free of charge. Humidifiers are also available to borrow.

Access

The hotel is about 5 minutes by car from JR Mihama Station and about 20 minutes by car from the Tsuruga IC. Free parking for 80 cars is available. Guests traveling by train can use a free shuttle from JR Mihama Station, which is for parties of 2 or more and requires a reservation by the day before. Kugushi Beach is a 1-minute walk from the inn, a spot the whole family can enjoy.
