Overview
Ryokan & Glamping Resort Hanasansui is a combined ryokan and glamping resort in the hills of Otaki, Chiba. Alongside 8-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms and 10-tatami corner rooms in the main building, and 23-tatami detached Japanese-style tatami rooms with an open-air bath, there are bell tents, dome tents and glamping cabins, for 15 rooms in all. Every plan has a children's rate, and family plans with 50% off for children of elementary school age and under are also offered. Dinner is a private BBQ on your terrace, with a children's plate prepared for children under school age. There is a kids' park on the grounds, and you can watch the children play from the gazebo beside it.
Rooms
The guest rooms are divided into detached rooms with an open-air bath and Japanese-style tatami rooms in the main building. The main building has 8-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms and 10-tatami corner rooms, both with a toilet and a washbasin. The detached rooms are 23-tatami Japanese-style tatami rooms with a bath and toilet; alongside the single-story type there are two-story detached rooms, described as villa-style accommodations spacious enough for larger groups. Glamping comes in six types: the 6 m Suite Bell Tent, the 5 m Premium Bell Tent, the 6 m Simple Bell Tent, the glamping cabin, the Simple Dome Tent and the Premium Dome Tent. The accommodations with a shower and toilet inside are the Suite Bell Tent, the 5 m Premium Bell Tent (sleeping up to 4), the glamping cabin and the Premium Dome Tent, while the 6 m Simple Bell Tent (sleeping up to 8, with beds for 4 plus cots for 4) and the Simple Dome Tent use the shared shower and toilet. The 6 m dome tent sold on Rakuten Travel and on the property's booking pages sleeps up to 7 and has air conditioning, but no bath or toilet. The cabin has 22 sq m indoors, a 5 sq m terrace and a 10 sq m BBQ terrace, and comes with a double bed and a single bed, a sofa and a private shower room. Air conditioning is fitted in the dome tents and the glamping cabin; the equipment list for the bell tents makes no mention of air conditioning. The suite-type tent described on Rakuten is 45 sq m indoors with a 20 sq m terrace, and its bedding sleeps 3 in beds, 3 on futons and 2 in sleeping bags. Room equipment in the main building and the detached rooms consists of a washbasin, a refrigerator, an air purifier, air conditioning and a toilet; there are no televisions, so that guests can enjoy the natural surroundings. All rooms are non-smoking.
Dining
In spring, summer and autumn, dinner is a private barbecue on your guest room terrace, and in the winter season only, you can also choose robatayaki (open-hearth grilling) in the dining area. For the main building's Japanese-style tatami rooms, the detached rooms and the glamping accommodations alike, plans with a barbecue are the mainstay. The BBQ Standard is a 9-item spread with American beef steak, an assortment of seafood, foil-baked chicken thigh steak, a handmade paella kit and toasted marshmallows, and a children's plate is prepared for children under school age. Breakfast is a hot-sandwich breakfast set on your own terrace, and guests in the detached rooms can also choose a Japanese breakfast in the dining area. Because the BBQ dinner is a private one right outside your room, you can eat without worrying about other guests, though it may be moved to an indoor venue in bad weather or during the winter season. The private terraces of the detached rooms are roofed, however, so a barbecue is possible there even on a rainy day. There are no convenience stores or restaurants nearby, so it is reassuring to buy anything extra your children may need before you arrive.

About 15 minutes by taxi from Kazusa-Nakano Station on the Kominato Railway or Kazusa-Okitsu Station on the JR Sotobo Line, and an hour and a half from central Tokyo, Kawasaki or Yokohama via the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. Parking for 10 cars is free with no reservation needed (first-come, first-served), but if your group will bring 2 or more cars, please confirm by phone in advance. Mobile phone reception in the area is poor, and there is no shuttle to the station. Check-in is from 3 p.m. (last check-in 9 p.m.) and checkout is at 10 a.m.
