The Retreat is a combined hotel and glamping property in Iizuka, Fukuoka, about 15 minutes by car from JR Shin-Iizuka Station. Along with the Mountain Lodge rooms in the hotel building, you can choose the Outlook Cabin cottages, the Journey Tent or the Comfort RV. Children of elementary school age and under pay no bed charge when they co-sleep in the same bed as a parent or guardian in the same room, and there are meals for children too, including a kids' plate at dinner and a half-buffet at breakfast. On the same grounds, Chikuho Ryokuchi park offers a lawn area and play equipment.
Rooms
The Mountain Lodge Twin in the hotel building is 30 sq m, with two single beds and two loft beds reached by ladder, sleeping up to 4 guests. The loft beds are on the small side at 185 cm long by 85 cm wide, so please think carefully about whether to have a young child sleep there. The Mountain Lodge Deluxe is 46 sq m, and 8 of the 15 rooms, the Deluxe among them, have a balcony. On the glamping side, the Outlook Cabin cottage is 52 sq m for 1 to 4 guests, the Journey Tent is 36 sq m for 1 to 4 guests, and the Comfort RV camping trailer is 18 sq m for 1 to 3 guests. Both the Journey Tent and the Comfort RV have a shower room, a washlet toilet and individually controlled air conditioning inside, so everything to do with water is self-contained within your site. Every site has its own deck for a private barbecue. The Outlook Cabin has a jacuzzi bath on the second-floor balcony up a spiral staircase, and a washbasin vanity, toilet and shower room on the first floor. The bathrooms in the hotel building have a rain shower and a separate washing area, which the hotel notes is a welcome touch for families with children. There is no communal bath, onsen or private-hire bath, so bathing is done in the shower or bath in your own room. There are 10 universal-design rooms, which need to be arranged by contacting the property in advance. Some Comfort RV rooms allow pets, and in that case you book through a pet plan. Nightwear and pajamas are not provided, so you will need to bring your own, including for children.

Dinner is an original barbecue created by a French chef who loves camping. Guests at the glamping sites eat on their own deck, while guests in the hotel building eat on the terrace of the Garden Kitchen on the first floor. If the weather or other conditions make a barbecue impossible, the meal may be moved to the banquet hall. For children, dinner is a kids' plate and breakfast is a half-buffet without a main dish. Adults have a half-buffet at breakfast with a choice of a Japanese or Western main dish, selected when booking. If you have dietary restrictions such as allergies, the kitchen will accommodate you as far as possible if you discuss it in advance.
Family-Friendly Features
When a child of elementary school age or under co-sleeps in the same bed as a parent or guardian in the same room, there is no bed charge. Towels for co-sleeping children are provided free of charge if you ask in advance. In the Mountain Lodge Twin in the hotel building, co-sleeping is limited to 2 children. If a child of elementary school age or under uses a bed, it is 4,800 yen for the bed alone, and guests of junior high school age and older are booked as adults. Humidifiers are available to borrow at the hotel front desk, in limited numbers.
