Overview
Aso Resort Grandvrio Hotel is a 180-room resort hotel with a golf course on its grounds, and its annex houses Kometsuka Onsen Kigokoro no Yu, an onsen facility with water flowing straight from the source. Co-sleeping is free for children under school age and 2,000 yen per elementary school child, with up to one child per bed. Cribs are limited in number, so you need to reserve one by phone in advance. Dinner and breakfast are Japanese and Western buffets, and meals are free for children aged 3 and under. Children who are not yet out of diapers (not yet toilet-trained) cannot use the communal bath, and there is no private-hire bath. The onsen is undergoing a full renovation scheduled to run until the end of January 2027. During the work, Kigokoro no Yu in the annex alternates between men and women, while Kometsuka Onsen on the 2nd floor of the main building is open with separate baths for men and women. The entire hotel is scheduled to close from after checkout on January 14, 2027 through January 20.
Rooms
The hotel has 180 rooms, all non-smoking. Twin Rooms come in two types: A, on the outer caldera rim side, and B, on the forest side. Each is 24.37 sq m with a 3.75 sq m balcony and has two beds measuring 110 x 203 cm. When 3 guests stay, one bed is a sofa bed that serves as the extra bed, and in Twin Rooms A and B on floors 2 to 5, one extra bed can be added for a fee with an advance reservation. The Suite Room is 48.75 sq m with an 11.50 sq m balcony and has one bed measuring 192 x 203 cm, for 2 guests. Co-sleeping is open to children under school age and to elementary school children, with up to one child per bed: it is free for children under school age and 2,000 yen per child (tax included) for elementary school children. Another of the hotel's notices lists co-sleeping for ages 6 to 12 at 2,000 yen, so if your child is 6 and has not yet started school, it is worth confirming the rate when you book. Co-sleeping children are not counted toward the room's capacity. No children's futon, extra bed or similar is provided for co-sleeping, and a child who uses a bed alone is charged the same room rate as an adult, regardless of age. The beds cannot be moved, so the two cannot be pushed together.
Dining
Dinner and breakfast are both Japanese and Western buffets at Wa Nagomi, the restaurant on the 3rd floor. Dinner includes 90 minutes of all-you-can-drink and is served in two sittings, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m., with last orders at 9 a.m. Dinner is 6,600 yen for adults and 2,750 yen for children from age 4 through elementary school, and breakfast is 1,100 yen for children from age 4 through elementary school, all tax included; both meals are free for children aged 3 and under. The restaurant has no age restriction, and if you ask the staff, they will bring a children's chair to your table. Baby food is not provided, and the kitchen cannot remove allergens or disliked ingredients from dishes. There is no room service or in-room dining either. You may bring in your own food and drinks, but only for use in your room; every room has a refrigerator, and there is a microwave on the 2nd floor. If you book with both dinner and breakfast included, you need to check in by 7:30 p.m.
Baths and Onsen
Kometsuka Onsen Kigokoro no Yu, on the 2nd floor of the annex, is an onsen facility with water flowing straight from the source. It has indoor and open-air baths, a lie-down bath (men's bath only), a rock bath, a cold-water bath, a pot-shaped bath (women's bath only) and a dry sauna. Normal hours are 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and staying guests can use it free of charge, except for ganbanyoku (heated-stone sauna), which costs an additional 1,000 yen. Children can use the communal bath too, but children who are not yet out of diapers (not yet toilet-trained) cannot bathe there. There is no private-hire bath and no room with an open-air bath; the in-room baths use heated regular water rather than onsen water, in a combined bath-and-toilet unit. No towels are provided at the communal bath, so bring the towels and bath towels from your room. The onsen bathing tax is 150 yen per night for guests aged 13 and over. Kigokoro no Yu is undergoing a full renovation, scheduled to run until the end of October 2026 for the men's bath and from October 2026 to the end of January 2027 for the women's bath. During the work, Kigokoro no Yu alternates between men and women, and the sauna and open-air bath cannot be used at some times of day. Kometsuka Onsen on the 2nd floor of the main building is open as separate communal baths for men and women, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Work on the women's side is scheduled to begin in October, so it is a good idea to check the hotel's notices for the schedule of when the baths switch between men and women. Some minor noise may occur intermittently while work is in progress.
