Sanrio Puroland is entirely indoors, so a rainy day does not change your plans. It is about a 5-minute walk from Tama Center Station, and staying near the station gives you time to spare before the morning opening. Yomiuriland sits on top of a hill, and the gondola from Keio-yomiuriland Station is a hit with children, though on days with a stroller and a lot of luggage the bus from Yomiuriland-mae Station or a car can be easier. The park itself has many slopes and a lot of ground to cover, so being close enough to head back to your hotel early when everyone tires out makes the afternoon much smoother.
Best season
Spring and fall are the easiest seasons for walking around the open-air Yomiuriland. In summer the Yomiuriland pool opens, and indoor Sanrio Puroland lets you escape the heat and the rain. Winter is the season of the Yomiuriland illuminations, when many families stay past sunset, so a hotel close to the park makes the trip home easy. Room rates rise over long weekends and school holidays, so if your dates are flexible, weekdays are the better bet.
Getting there
Sanrio Puroland is about 35 minutes from Shinjuku Station on the Keio Line to Tama Center Station, then a 5-minute walk. For Yomiuriland, take the Keio Line from Shinjuku Station to Keio-yomiuriland Station in about 25 minutes and ride the Sky Shuttle gondola from in front of the station up to the park. On the Odakyu Line, take the bus from Yomiuriland-mae Station. By car, the nearest exits are Kunitachi-Fuchu IC and Inagi IC on the Chuo Expressway, and park parking lots can fill up during busy periods.
