Umino Mari Shodoshima is a 6-room inn on the Tanoura Peninsula on Shodoshima, where every room looks out over the sea. Each room has its own open-air bath with a view, so you can watch the shifting scenery of the Seto Inland Sea while you soak. Stays with children are accepted on Sundays only, and children aged 0 to 12 are booked through the Children's Plan. Children are served a plate meal, and co-sleeping is available for up to one child. Junior high school students and older can stay as adults on any day.
Rooms
All 6 rooms look out over the sea, and each has its own open-air bath with a view. E no Oto on the 1st floor is 62 sq m, with a 12 sq m terrace, for 2 to 3 guests, and is laid out so you can reach the lobby and the restaurant without any steps. On the 2nd floor, No no Oto is 64 sq m and Me no Oto is 63 sq m, each for 3 guests, while Yu no Oto is 54 sq m for 2 guests. In all of these the bedroom has two double beds. The detached Sa no Oto is 75 sq m, with a 14 sq m terrace, for 2 to 4 guests, and its bedroom has two queen beds; for meals you walk over to the dining building. The detached To no Oto is 73 sq m, with a 12 sq m terrace, for 2 to 3 guests, and its bedroom has two double beds. Co-sleeping is available for up to one child.

Dinner is the Olive Kaiseki, a multi-course kaiseki dinner, served within opening hours of 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (last order 7:30 p.m.) in two completely separate seatings, 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. Breakfast is Shima no Asagohan, the island breakfast, served within opening hours of 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (last order 9 a.m.) in two seatings, 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. The dining room has counter seats where you can watch the cooking, as well as semi-private seats. Children are served a plate meal as standard; extra individual dishes, or a change to the same full kaiseki the adults have, can be chosen from the options and reserved in advance. If there are ingredients your child cannot eat because of allergies, tell the inn in advance and they will accommodate you as far as they can.

There are 2 open-air baths, open from 3:30 p.m. to 10:45 a.m., filled with onsen water that is heated and has water added. There are also 2 private-hire baths, Mari Rakuyu. Before dinner they are reserved in 45-minute slots, with the slots arranged so that you can bathe without waiting; after dinner they can be used without a reservation. The open-air bath with a view in each of the 6 rooms belongs to that room, so you can take in the Seto Inland Sea scenery without leaving your room.

The Children's Plan also includes items such as samue (a two-piece Japanese work-wear set) in children's sizes. There are no fully barrier-free rooms, but the detached To no Oto has a ramp designed with wheelchair access in mind, and the room and toilet have few steps. E no Oto on the 1st floor likewise has no steps between it and the lobby or the dining room, which makes it a comparatively easy room to settle into. A humidifier is available to borrow.
Access
It is about 60 minutes by ferry from Takamatsu Port, then about 30 minutes by car from Ikeda Port, or about 40 minutes by car from Tonosho Port. From Himeji Port it is about 100 minutes by ferry, then about 35 minutes by car from Fukuda Port. From Shin-Okayama Port it is about 70 minutes by ferry, then about 40 minutes by car from Tonosho Port. The nearest bus stop, Horikoshi, is about a 2-minute walk away. A shuttle runs once a day and must be reserved in advance, by 3 days before your stay. Parking for 6 cars is free for staying guests and needs no reservation. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and checkout is at 12 p.m.
