Takachiho Ryokan Shinsen is a Japanese-style ryokan with 15 rooms in Takachiho, Miyazaki. Most of the rooms in the main building, the detached cottages and the annex have an open-air bath or a bath made entirely of hinoki cypress, and dinner and breakfast are served as kaiseki cuisine featuring Takachiho beef in private dining rooms. There is no communal bath, private-hire bath, or indoor or outdoor pool. Children are welcome to stay: elementary school children can choose either the same dishes as the adults or a kids' meal, and up to 2 children may co-sleep. If your party includes children of elementary school age or younger, you must inform the ryokan when booking.
Rooms
The ryokan has 15 rooms in total: 8 in the main building (6 rooms with an open-air bath and 2 rooms with an indoor bath made entirely of hinoki cypress), 5 detached cottages in Korogi no Sho, and 2 rooms in the Kanniwa annex. Ruri, in the main building, is 60 sq m with a small courtyard garden and an open-air bath, and is furnished with Simmons beds. Tsukuyomi and Manyo, among the detached cottages, are the largest accommodations here at 100 sq m and can host up to 6 guests. Tachibana and Toyotama in the annex are 60 sq m rooms with a bath made entirely of hinoki cypress and views over the Japanese garden. Note that Toyotama is on the second floor and is reached by stairs.

Dinner and breakfast are served in private dining rooms sized to your party. Dinner plans feature Takachiho beef, winner of the Prime Minister's Award at the 9th National Japanese Beef Ability Exposition, as well as Ozaki beef, a Miyazaki beef brand. Elementary school children can choose either the same dishes as the adults (100% of the adult rate) or a kids' meal (50% of the adult rate). Children staying on a co-sleeping basis are not served breakfast; instead they receive rice and miso soup as a courtesy. If you would like your child to have the same breakfast as the adults, the ryokan can arrange it when you tell them at the time of booking. If you would prefer no breakfast for an infant or toddler, you also need to say so when booking. Any allergies or disliked ingredients must likewise be communicated at the time of booking.

Each room has its own open-air bath or bath made entirely of hinoki cypress: in the main building, 6 rooms have an open-air bath and 2 have an indoor hinoki bath; all 5 detached cottages have an open-air bath; and both annex rooms have an indoor hinoki bath. The property as a whole has no communal bath, private-hire bath or sauna, and there is no indoor or outdoor pool.

Children are welcome to stay, and up to 2 children may co-sleep. Co-sleeping is 70% of the adult rate for elementary school children in both the upper and lower grades. For infants and toddlers, the rate is 30-50% of the adult rate depending on whether meals and bedding are included, or free of charge. Infants and toddlers cannot be accommodated on a meals-without-bedding basis. If your party includes children of elementary school age or younger, you must inform the ryokan when booking. There are no barrier-free facilities and no childcare service.

Parking is available for 20 cars, free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. A free shuttle runs between the Takachiho Bus Center and the ryokan; please arrange it in advance.
