Shima Grand Hotel

Dinner is a buffet of about 50 Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, with a kids' corner full of dishes children love. There is also a cotton candy corner where children can make their own, plus soft-serve ice cream, so children can pick out what they want to eat. Breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet.

Private-hire baths where you can soak while looking out over the mountain stream, at 2,500 yen (before tax) for 40 minutes. They are an option when you want to enjoy the onsen with your child without worrying about other guests. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers may use them is not stated, so please check with the hotel.

Options include a 15-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with a hinoki cypress open-air bath, rooms of 10 to 15 tatami mats with a Shigaraki-ware open-air bath, and a 10-tatami room with a semi-open-air bath, all with onsen water piped in. Even if your baby is at an age when getting to the communal bath is hard, you can enjoy the onsen in your room.

A heated pool open in summer only, on floor 3 (river side) of the Bokuyukan building at the sister ryokan Shima Tamura. It uses water warmed by heat exchange with a high-temperature spring source. Shima Grand Hotel guests who buy a Yumeguri Passport (1,100 yen per person, sold at the front desk) can use both the Sakura Pool and onsen bath-hopping at Shima Tamura. The pool is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; hotel guests can use it from noon to 5:30 p.m. on their day of arrival, and it is closed every Tuesday for cleaning. No lifeguard is on duty, so children must be accompanied by a guardian. Swimsuits and swim rings are not sold, so please bring your own.

A humidifier, an iron and a trouser press are available to borrow, so you can run a humidifier in your room during the drier seasons when you are staying with children. Some rooms have a toilet with a washing function.
