Shima Grand Hotel

Dinner is a buffet of about 50 Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, with a kids' corner gathering the dishes children love. There is also a cotton candy corner where they can make their own, as well as soft-serve ice cream, so children can choose and eat at their own pace. Breakfast is either a Japanese set meal or a Japanese-Western buffet.

Private-hire baths where you bathe looking out over the mountain stream, available for 2,500 yen before tax for 40 minutes. They are an option when you want to share the onsen with your child without worrying about other guests. Whether children who are not yet out of diapers may use them is not stated, so please confirm with the ryokan.

These include a 15-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with a hinoki cypress open-air bath, rooms of 10 to 15 tatami mats with a Shigaraki-ware open-air bath, and a 10-tatami room with a semi-open-air bath, all with onsen water piped in. Even with a baby too young for a trip to the communal bath, you can enjoy the onsen in your own room.

A summer-only heated pool at the sister ryokan Shima Tamura (Kiyu-kan, Kawa 3rd floor), filled with water warmed by heat exchange from a high-temperature spring source. Guests of Shima Grand Hotel who buy a Yumeguri Passport (1,100 yen per person, sold at the front desk) can use both the Sakura Pool and the onsen bath-hopping at Shima Tamura. The pool is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and staying guests can use it from noon to 5:30 p.m. on the day they arrive; it closes every Tuesday for cleaning. There is no lifeguard on duty, so children must be accompanied by a guardian. Swimsuits and swim rings are not sold there, so please bring your own.

A humidifier, an iron and a trouser press are available to borrow. In the drier seasons you can use the humidifier in the room where you are staying with your children. Some rooms have a toilet with a washing function.
