Kikuya Niijima

Kikuya is a homey family-run guesthouse in Honson, the village at the center of Niijima, conveniently placed in the middle of town and about a 5-minute walk from Maehama Beach.

What families will appreciate most is how close the sea is. Maehama Beach, which shelves gently with calm waves, is about a 5-minute walk away, so it is easy to take the children down for a swim whenever you like. You can play in the sea, come back to the guesthouse for a rest, and head out again - a rhythm that works well with young children. Habushiura Beach, famous for surfing, is about 10 minutes away by bicycle.

Being in the center of town means shops and places to eat are close by, so shopping and meals are easy. A welcome drink and pickup from the port make the stay feel relaxed and at home. The bath has 2 showers and a tub, and guests take turns using it.

Niijima is an island rich in the kind of nature and hands-on experiences that families enjoy. Yunohama Open-Air Onsen, a free open-air hot spring you enter in a swimsuit, has striking Greek-style architecture and looks out over the sea as you soak. Other spots scattered around the island include the Moyai statues, which originated on Niijima, and the Niijima Glass Art Center, where you can try glass art made with koga stone, a local specialty.

Getting here takes about 5 minutes by car from Niijima Port and about 3 minutes by car from Niijima Airport, and pickup is available from both.
