Miyajima no Yado Iwaso is a long-established onsen ryokan of more than 160 years, set beside Momijidani Park on Miyajima, a World Heritage site. Loved by many well-known figures, it is the most prestigious ryokan on the island. It is about a 15-minute walk from Miyajima Pier, and a free shuttle is available if you contact the ryokan when you board the ferry. Itsukushima Shrine and Momijidani Park are both within walking distance.

Wakamiya Onsen, which rises from a well, is a natural hot spring that is rare on Miyajima, a cold mineral spring containing radon. From the communal bath and open-air bath you can enjoy the illuminated green of the primeval forest and the murmur of the stream. Sukiya-style detached rooms, tatami rooms and Hiroshima beef kaiseki

Along with the main building and the new building, the ryokan has sukiya-style detached guest rooms deep in the garden. Rooms are mainly Japanese-style tatami rooms, laid out so that co-sleeping with a young child on the tatami is easy to arrange. Dinner is a kaiseki course using Hiroshima beef and ingredients from the Seto Inland Sea, and food allergies can be accommodated in the meals if you notify the ryokan at least 7 days before check-in.

For families who want to savor Miyajima quietly

This is a calm ryokan with a grown-up feel, and the curfew is midnight, but there is a rate category for children under school age, so families with babies and young children can stay. There are no lively kids' facilities, but it suits families who want to take in Miyajima's historic atmosphere and the nature of Momijidani quietly.
