Overview
Misasa Onsen Misasakan is a natural hot-spring ryokan fed by its own source, flowing directly from the source, with the greatest volume of onsen water in Misasa. There are 2 communal baths and 6 open-air baths, as well as private-hire open-air baths and guest rooms with their own onsen baths. Of the 74 rooms, the Japanese-style tatami rooms with twin beds have restrictions on accepting children, while the large rooms of 10 tatami mats plus 7.5 tatami mats take 3 to 7 guests and suit families well. Children under school age are served a kids' meal, and in summer staying guests can also enjoy the outdoor pool free of charge.
Rooms
This Japanese-style ryokan has 74 rooms and accommodates up to 322 guests. Standard Japanese-style tatami rooms are mostly around 10 tatami mats and sleep 2 to 5 guests. The Japanese-style tatami room with twin beds (8 tatami mats) cannot accept children of elementary school age or younger, including for co-sleeping, and the Japanese-style tatami room with twin beds (10 tatami mats) does not accept co-sleeping either. The large room of 10 tatami mats plus 7.5 tatami mats comes with twin beds, takes 3 to 7 guests and is well suited to family stays. Rooms with an open-air bath are also available: the Concept Room, a 45 sq m Japanese-modern room with two semi-double beds and a terrace open-air bath fed by the ryokan's own source, flowing directly from the source; Suite Room Mizuki, a 90 sq m Japanese-modern room for 4 guests, with 2 in beds and 2 on futons; and the maisonette-style annex Rin, about 120 sq m for 2 to 5 guests. Humidifiers and reading lamps are also available to borrow for guest rooms.

Elementary school children are served the same dishes as adults at 100% of the adult rate, while children ages 3 up to elementary school age are served a kids' meal of Hamburg steak, fried prawns, Tottori Wagyu steak and more, at 50% of the adult rate. Children under school age who need neither meals nor futon bedding pay a facility fee of 2,200 yen, and children ages 2 and under are generally free of charge, with no futon bedding, yukata or meals provided. For children ages 3 to 5 who want breakfast only, there is no additional charge when breakfast is served buffet-style; if it is changed to a set menu depending on bookings, the charge is 1,650 yen. The ryokan does its best to accommodate the 8 specified allergenic ingredients (egg, dairy, wheat, peanut, prawn, buckwheat, crab and walnut), but requests must be made at least 3 days before the stay, and complete removal is not guaranteed. Some room types include meals in a private dining room, either Yoimachi Chaya on the first floor or Misasa Chaya on the second floor, and chair-and-table seating can be arranged if requested when booking. Breakfast is a buffet with more than about 50 kinds of dishes.

Every bath is natural onsen from the ryokan's own source, flowing directly from the source, with 2 communal baths and 6 open-air baths. None of them can be used from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., which is the cleaning time. The spring water is a radioactive (radium) sodium chloride spring. The private-hire open-air baths Tamayuraku are also onsen flowing directly from the source; there are 2 of them, available from 2,200 yen for 45 minutes. The guest rooms with an open-air bath or an indoor onsen bath also have onsen flowing directly from the source. Guests can reach the area just in front of the communal bath entrance by wheelchair, but there is a step at the entrance, and you then need to walk along a tatami-floored corridor that has a few steps partway.
Family-Friendly Features
The outdoor pool is open in summer only, and staying guests can use it free of charge. There is no children's pool and no lifeguard on duty, so children must be accompanied by a guardian. The pool is 20 m long and 7 m wide, with a depth of 30 to 120 cm. Inside the ryokan, a game corner open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. has air hockey, claw crane machines and kart games. Ajisai, a multipurpose space that can be booked for private use by the hour, offers table tennis and karaoke and suits families as well. The shop sells onsen cosmetics such as Misasa Mist, along with souvenirs children enjoy, including Shiro Usagi Financier cakes shaped like a white rabbit.
Access
A free shuttle bus runs from JR Kurayoshi Station every day between 2:10 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., but advance reservations are required. Parking for 100 cars is free for staying guests. Checkout is at 10 a.m., and it can be extended by one hour if you pay a room extension fee.
