forumWhat families say
Rakuten Travel has 18 reviews. Some guests report that having two bedrooms and two toilets, plus a washing machine in the room, made their family stay comfortable. Others note that cooking utensils, seasonings and plates were all provided, so even on a plan without meals they could eat food they had bought in their room. A family traveling with a 1-year-old said they could lay out futons in the tatami area and sleep without worrying about falls. Please note that these reviews are from stays in 2021 and 2022, and the parking discount offered at that time ended at the end of September 2023.

Overview
MIMARU SUITES Kyoto Shijo is an apartment-style hotel about a 3-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway. Every one of its 37 rooms has a kitchen, cooking utensils and a dining table. Suite capacity is 4 to 6 adults plus 2 children, depending on the room, and in the Japanese-Western rooms futons can be laid out in the tatami room. Cribs (for ages 2 and under) and bed guards (for ages 2 and over only) are available to borrow free of charge, though numbers are limited. Stay plans do not include meals, so this is a place where you cook for yourselves in your room's kitchen.
Rooms
All 37 rooms have a kitchen, cooking utensils and a dining table, so families can stay as if they lived there. All rooms are non-smoking. According to the hotel, rates are charged per room, so the price does not change as the number of guests goes up. The hotel website lists the following rooms for this property. The 2-Bedroom Suite (49 sq m) and the Superior 2-Bedroom Suite (67 sq m) have 4 single beds and sleep up to 4 adults and 2 children. The 2-Bedroom Suite for 5 (79 sq m) has 5 single beds for 5 adults and 2 children, and the 3-Bedroom Suite (79 sq m) has 6 single beds for 6 adults and 2 children. Two Japanese-Western room types with tatami sleep 6 adults and 2 children, each with 4 single beds and 2 sets of Japanese futon bedding: the 2-Bedroom Japanese Suite (84 sq m, or 86 sq m for rooms on the 1st floor) and the Premium 2-Bedroom Japanese Suite (98 sq m), created in collaboration with a local tool shop. For capacity purposes, children means ages 6 and under. Except in the 49 sq m 2-Bedroom Suite, the master room has its own shower room. On the brand's information page, the 84 sq m Japanese-Western room is called the Deluxe 3-Bedroom Suite (Japanese-Western room). In the Japanese-Western rooms, futons can be laid out in the tatami room, which makes them easy to use with young children. Guests make up the futons and sofa beds themselves. Rooms have a refrigerator, a microwave, a toaster, an electric kettle, a humidifying air purifier, a safety box and an in-room washing machine, so you can wash your children's clothes in your room. Rice cookers, irons and pajamas are available to borrow in limited numbers. During your stay, rooms are cleaned once every 2 days, not counting the check-in day (the first cleaning is on the third night).
Dining
Stay plans are room-only, with no breakfast or dinner included, and in-room dining is not available. Because you can cook in your room's kitchen, you can prepare meals suited to your children yourselves. Information on a kids' menu or allergy accommodation is not listed in our information. According to the room-only plan information, the Kurashi no Baikingu (a help-yourself "living buffet") offers Mimaru Dogu-ten (a utensil shop corner), coffee and tea time from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Kyo no Kikizake (Kyoto sake tasting, with alcoholic drinks) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Baths
In the rooms, the bathroom (with a bathtub) and the toilet are separate. Except in the 49 sq m 2-Bedroom Suite, the master bedroom also has its own washbasin and shower room. Information on a communal bath is not listed in our information.
Family-Friendly Features
