Manza Prince Hotel

forumWhat families say

Rakuten Travel rating 3.77 out of 5 (2,085 reviews). Several guests report a comfortable stay in the cool climate, around 20 degrees C even at the height of summer, and praise the buffet as delicious. Some also report that families with a child who has allergies were able to stay comfortably in a clean room. On the other hand, the open-air bath includes mixed bathing with a towel-wearing rule, so guests who would find that uncomfortable should keep it in mind.

Overview

Manza Prince Hotel is a large resort hotel standing in Manza Onsen at an elevation of 1,800 m. It has the sulfur-spring open-air bath Komakusa no Yu, the women-only Shakunage no Yu and a private-hire onsen for families, where guests can enjoy milky-white water. Children under 6 who co-sleep are not charged a room rate, and a child rate applies to children ages 6 to under 12. Cribs are available, though they cannot be used in some room types. Rooms include family rooms for 2 to 4 guests and a 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room, so families can choose according to their group size.

Rooms

Manza Prince Hotel is a large resort hotel with 227 rooms in total. For families, the Main Building Family Room (38.0 sq m, for 1 to 4 guests) has 2 main beds and 2 sofa beds, giving everyone room for a lively stay together. The corner Main Building Twin Room A (40.8 sq m, with 2 main beds and 1 sofa bed, for 1 to 3 guests) has large windows and an open feel. The 10-tatami Japanese-style tatami room (for 1 to 5 guests) comes with 5 sets of futon bedding and has no bathroom. The Main Building Family Room, Main Building Twin Room A and the Japanese-style tatami room each come in both non-smoking and smoking versions, so if you want to avoid tobacco, specify a non-smoking room when booking. Portable air conditioners are installed in East Wing twin rooms from late May to late September and in South Wing twin rooms from mid-June to late September; the building has no air-conditioning system.

Dining

The restaurants offer menus for children. With some accommodation plans, dinner is a children's dinner, either Western or Japanese. At the buffet restaurant, a child rate applies from age 4. Food allergy accommodation covers only 8 ingredients - shrimp, crab, walnut, wheat, buckwheat, egg, milk and peanut - and must be requested in advance.

Baths and Onsen

At 1,800 m above sea level, the open-air bath Komakusa no Yu is a communal bath where you can take in the seasons - fresh greenery, autumn leaves and snow views - and a sky full of stars at night. It includes a mixed-bathing tub, where towels are worn, so couples and families can bathe together. There is also the women-only covered open-air bath Shakunage no Yu. If you would rather soak as a family in private, the private-hire onsen baths on the 1st floor of the South Wing, Suisho no Yu and Shirataki no Yu, cost 3,000 yen for 45 minutes and can be reserved at the front desk or by phone. Guests can also use the onsen at the sister property, Manza Kogen Hotel, free of charge.

Family-Friendly Points

Children under 6 who co-sleep are not charged a room rate. A child rate applies to children ages 6 to under 12. If a child under 6 needs a bed of their own, a bed charge of 3,500 yen per person per night applies. Cribs are available, though they cannot be used in some room types. Children who have not yet started elementary school can stay on a co-sleeping basis only. The hotel can be used by wheelchair users, but there are no dedicated rooms or dedicated toilets, and no universal toilet. Guests accompanied by a guide dog are also welcome.

Access

A shuttle bus is available from the South Exit of Karuizawa Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, taking about 90 minutes, with advance reservation required. The hotel is about 64 km from the Usui-Karuizawa IC on the Joshin-etsu Expressway. Free parking for 190 vehicles is provided. Because the hotel sits at an elevation of 1,800 m, snow is possible from around late October until early May whenever the weather turns bad, so studless tires or tire chains are necessary. Check-in is from 3 p.m. to midnight, and checkout is at 11 a.m.
