Vacation House Familia Kozushima is a stylish B&B on Kozushima, built around the idea of being a place for making friends that just happens to look like an inn. It puts its energy into a comfortable space where conversation comes naturally - something you won't find at a resort or a ryokan.

The guest rooms combine the spectacular scenery of Kozushima with the landscapes the owner has seen around the world, and each one is designed around a travel destination, giving it its own character. Rooms are booked privately by family or group, so you can spend your time with just your own family, without worrying about other guests. There is a family room with 3 sets of bedding that sleeps 4, as well as ocean-view rooms, so the property also suits family trips with children. Groups other than families are limited to 4 guests, and a minimum stay of 2 nights is required.

Mornings bring a breakfast enjoyed around one big table, with freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked bread, and conversation with fellow travelers along with it. The café bar on the first floor serves wines and cheeses chosen by a sommelier, so adults can unwind there once the children are asleep.

The service is generous, too: free shuttles run to the port, the airport and the onsen, so an island trip without a car is easy to manage. There are 7 to 8 restaurants within walking distance, and staff will point them out to you on arrival, so you can taste the island's produce at a local eatery for dinner.

Kozushima is certified as a dark-sky preserve and is known for its beautiful night skies. It also has a calm swimming beach that stays shallow far out, and an open-air onsen bath you can enter in a swimsuit (open year-round, mixed-gender, swimsuits required). Between the stars, the sea and the onsen, it makes an ideal base for a family to enjoy the island.
