Meals are served in the adjoining Saryo Seisentei, in a private room for each group.

Hatago Oda Onsen is an onsen ryokan founded in 1922 (Taisho 11), standing on the bank of the Oda River in Taki-cho, Izumo, Shimane. It has its own spring source and just six guest rooms, ranging from 6 to 20 tatami mats. The entire building is wooden, in the shin-sukiya style, and no slippers are set out inside: the floors are wiped down with a damp cloth every day, so even small children can walk barefoot. Meals are offered only on plans that include both dinner and breakfast, with a kids' kaiseki course and a kids' bento for elementary school children and a kids' meal for ages 3 to 5. There are two bathhouses, Hiten-no-Yu and Ryusen-no-Yu, plus a separate private-hire bath, Toyotama-no-Yu, available by reservation. There is no pool.
Rooms
The ryokan was founded in 1922 (Taisho 11), and the current building, newly built in 1988 (Showa 63), is entirely wooden in the shin-sukiya style, with six rooms of individual character ranging from 6 to 20 tatami mats. So that guests can take in the energy of the wood, no slippers are set out inside; the floors are wiped down with a damp cloth every day, so even small children can walk barefoot. Every room has its own toilet. The Ran no Ma has an 8-tatami Japanese-style tatami room with a 4-tatami attic room attached, and guests love that 4-tatami space, named the "hideaway room," saying it feels like a child's secret base. The Hagi no Ma is a Japanese-Western room, a 21-tatami space divided up and furnished with a dining table and beds. The Kiku no Ma can feel cramped when used by three people including a child. Because the building is wooden, sound from the next room can carry.
Dining
There are no room-only or breakfast-only plans; all plans include both dinner and breakfast. Dinner is served in the adjoining Saryo Seisentei, in a private room for each group. Breakfast is in the restaurant of the same tea house. For children, upper-grade elementary school children receive a kids' kaiseki course, lower-grade elementary school children a kids' bento, and children aged 3 to 5 a kids' meal. Children of elementary school age and under who would like the same kaiseki as the adults are charged 2,200 yen less than the adult rate. Allergies are accommodated as far as possible if you let the ryokan know in advance, but requests made on the day may not be able to be accommodated. In the Hagi no Ma, in-room dining is also possible for an additional 2,200 yen per person.
Baths and Onsen
The spring source lies in the bed of the Oda River, which flows right alongside the ryokan, so the water comes from the ryokan's own source. There are two bathhouses, Hiten-no-Yu and Ryusen-no-Yu, open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the evening and from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the morning. Toyotama-no-Yu, the private-hire bath added in 2021, is available by reservation at 2,500 yen for 50 minutes, and being barrier-free it can be used by everyone from families with small children to older guests. It is currently offered to staying guests in the evening only. There are no guest rooms with an open-air bath or an indoor bath of their own.
Family-Friendly Features
The ryokan has baby chairs and toddler chairs among its facilities, a humidifier available to borrow among the in-room items, and children's yukata among the guest-room amenities. Note, however, that co-sleeping arrangements covering only the entry fee, only futon bedding or only meals are offered at a special price, so they do not come with bath towels, yukata, toothbrushes or other amenities; amenities are included from the children's accommodation plans priced from 7,900 yen. The children's service plans without amenities, for meals only or futon bedding only and aimed at children who have not yet started elementary school, can be booked only by phone or through the ryokan's own website. For children under 3 with no meals and no futon bedding, the entry fee is 1,800 yen, and it is waived when you book by phone. Please always let the ryokan know in advance when traveling with a baby or other young child, even if no charge applies. If bedwetting soaks through below the mattress pad, 3,500 yen per futon is charged as a portion of the futon cleaning cost, and a bedwetting coverage option at 1,000 yen per child can be added when booking.
Access
It is an 8-minute walk from JR Oda Station, and the shuttle will run even for a single guest. There is free parking for about 10 cars on the grounds. From the parking area to the rooms, there is a ramp entrance that lets guests be shown in without steps. The Sea of Japan is 400 m away, and Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine is 20 minutes by car. Check-in is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and checkout is at 10 a.m. Pets cannot be brought inside the building.
