About Yudanaka Shibu Onsen Area

The Yudanaka Shibu Onsen Area is the collective name for nine hot spring towns scattered along the Yokoyu River and Yomase River in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, Nagano Prefecture. Some counts include Kutsuno Onsen, which makes ten. There are about 100 ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) and hotels, and they vary widely in character, from large ryokan and city-style hotels to traditional wooden inns. The area has the second-largest number of public bathhouses in Japan, after Beppu Onsen. Its historic stone-paved streets are still intact, and it has long been loved as a toji (hot spring healing retreat) destination.
