About Nanki-Katsuura Onsen

Nanki-Katsuura Onsen is a hot spring area in Nachikatsuura Town, Higashimuro District, Wakayama Prefecture. Along with Nanki-Shirahama Onsen, it is one of the best-known hot spring destinations in the prefecture. Set along a ria coastline facing the Pacific Ocean, hotels and ryokan (traditional Japanese inns) of various sizes are clustered from the scenic Kii-Matsushima area to Katsuura Port. Some inns stand on islands or capes, and for those inns, a boat from the tourist pier is the only way to reach the mainland. Hotel Urashima has bathing areas inside natural sea caves facing the Pacific, called Bokido and Genbudo. This is not a day-trip destination, so there are no large amusement facilities like those in Shirahama. Kii-Katsuura Fishing Port is known as a base for tuna fishing, and tuna is the local specialty.
