About Matsuyama Station

Matsuyama Station is a JR Shikoku Yosan Line station at Minamiedo 1-chome in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, and serves as the main station of the prefectural capital. It was elevated on September 29, 2024, and is now an elevated station with two island platforms and four tracks. The ticket gates and Dandan-dori, a shopping area with shops and restaurants, are on the first floor, and the platforms are on the third floor. The Shiokaze, Ishizuchi, and Uwakai limited express trains stop here, and the Shiokaze connects to the Sanyo Shinkansen at Okayama Station. Buses to Dogo Onsen and Matsuyama Airport leave from in front of the station, and there is also a JR Matsuyama-ekimae stop on the Iyotetsu (Iyo Railway) city tram.

    Cross-platform limited express transfers

The Shiokaze and Ishizuchi use Platform 1, and the Uwakai uses Platform 2 (except Uwakai No. 7), so transfers are made across the same platform. Only Uwakai No. 7 differs from this arrangement.

    Second-floor waiting room

The second floor has a waiting room that doubles as a Taiwan exchange gallery. Because the platforms are on the third floor, you go up from the ticket gates before boarding your train.

Travel tips

Limited express trains run hourly. The Uwakai arrives at Platform 2 (except No. 7), and the Shiokaze and Ishizuchi arrive at Platform 1, so transfers involve only a short walk. The platforms are on the third floor and the ticket gates are on the first floor, so if you have a lot of luggage, it is easier to use a coin locker on the first floor first. Ekiben and drinks can be bought at the kiosk on the platform for Platforms 1 and 2.

Best season

In the Dogo Onsen area, where you will likely be based, spring and autumn bring mild weather, which makes sightseeing comfortable, along with cherry blossoms and fall foliage at Matsuyama Castle and Dogo Park. Summer is very hot, so it is best to save outdoor activities for the cooler mornings and evenings. Winter is relatively warm and easy to enjoy in this region.
