forumWhat families say
Rakuten Travel rating 4.35 out of 5 (4,391 reviews). Guests praise the breakfast octopus-shaped sausages, cut with eyes and a mouth so children enjoy them, and some report that their children were delighted to have scrambled eggs made fresh to order. The communal bath can get crowded in busy periods, but guests report that everyone made room for one another.

Overview
Dormy Inn Hirosaki is a business hotel a 6-minute walk from Chuo Hirosaki Station on the Konan Railway and close to Hirosaki Park. Rooms come in six types: single, double, queen, twin, Japanese-style tatami, and universal. Co-sleeping is free for ages 0-2, and 3,000 yen per child from age 3 through elementary school. The 10th floor has separate men's and women's natural onsen communal baths with a sauna, and breakfast is a Japanese-Western buffet that includes regional dishes. No cribs are available, and guest-room bathrooms have a shower booth only.
Rooms
The hotel has 13 single rooms, 95 doubles, 64 twins, 10 Japanese-style tatami rooms and 1 universal room. There are six types: single (15.8-16.7 sq m, for 1 guest), double (15.8-17.0 sq m, for 1-2 guests, with a 140 cm-wide bed), queen (20.8-22.3 sq m, for 2 guests, with a 160 cm-wide bed), twin (19.2-22.4 sq m, for 2 guests, with two 120 cm-wide beds), Japanese-style tatami (20.6-24.0 sq m, for 3 guests, with two Japanese-style beds measuring 110 cm x 200 cm and one set of Japanese futon bedding measuring 95 cm x 200 cm) and universal (32.7 sq m). Every room except the Japanese-style tatami rooms has Simmons beds. Guest rooms have no bathtub, only a shower booth, so soaking in a tub means using the communal bath on the 10th floor. Co-sleeping is free for ages 0-2 and costs 3,000 yen per child from age 3 through elementary school, with up to one child per bed. Single-bed double and queen rooms take up to 2 adults plus 1 co-sleeping child; two-bed twin rooms take up to 2 adults plus 2 co-sleeping children; and Japanese-style tatami rooms, using three futons, take up to 3 adults plus 3 co-sleeping children. Junior high school students and older pay the adult rate. Checkout can be extended for 1,000 yen per hour until 1 p.m. at the latest, so families whose mornings run long need not rush.
Dining
Breakfast is served in the second-floor restaurant HATAGO from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with last entry at 9 a.m. It is a Japanese-Western buffet that also features local specialties such as senbei-jiru (a rice-cracker soup), igamenchi (a fried squid-and-vegetable patty) and scallop rice. Prices are 2,000 yen for adults, 1,000 yen for children from age 3 through elementary school, and free for ages 2 and under. Because it is a buffet, ingredients containing the nine specified allergens are handled with the same cooking equipment, and the hotel does not create individual allergy-specific menus or prepare dishes with particular ingredients removed. Birthday cakes cannot be provided due to food-hygiene regulations, so if you are planning an anniversary celebration, please confirm with the hotel in advance. Late-night noodles (yonaki soba) are also served free of charge from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Baths and Onsen
The 10th-floor natural onsen communal baths, Iwaki Sakura no Yu, are separate for men and women and open from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next morning; the sauna alone is closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. They include an indoor bath, an open-air bath, a high-temperature sauna and a cold-water bath. The spring water is an alkaline simple onsen (a hypotonic, alkaline, high-temperature spring), said to be beneficial for muscle pain, neuralgia and sensitivity to cold. Mixed bathing with a child is generally allowed up to age 6; after that, children use the bath for their own gender. A free washing machine is available inside the communal bath area, and the hotel also has a self-service laundry corner (free) and gas dryers for a fee, useful for families with children who go through plenty of changes of clothes.
Family-Friendly Features
Cribs are not available. The breakfast restaurant lends out baby chairs free of charge, though the number is limited. The front desk lends children's amenities and also has child-size loungewear and slippers. Air purifiers with a humidifying function are available to borrow as well, which helps families with young children when the air is dry.
Access
The hotel is a 6-minute walk from Chuo Hirosaki Station on the Konan Railway Owani Line, and a 30-minute walk or about 20 minutes by car from JR Hirosaki Station (about 15 km from Owani-Hirosaki IC). Hirosaki Park is a 7-minute walk away.
